Our Board
ARIA has been established with a set of unique statutory authorities, and significant autonomy. Our Board brings diverse experience and responsible governance.
The Board is the main body for oversight within ARIA. In addition to ARIA’s Executive Team, the Board is composed of 8 Non-Executive Directors who bring significant expertise across sectors and disciplines to help us unlock huge potential for the UK’s tech and science ecosystem.
There are three sub-committees of the Board — the Remuneration Committee (RemCo), the Audit and Risk Committee (ARAC) and the Ethics and Social Responsibility Committee (ESRC).

Matt Clifford
Matt is the co-founder and Chair of Entrepreneur First (EF) and Vice Chair of the Advisory Board for the UK AI Safety Institute. In 2023, he served as the UK Prime Minister's Representative for the AI Safety Summit at Bletchley Park. Matt was awarded an MBE for services to business in 2016, and a CBE for services to AI in 2024.

Dame Angela McLean
Angela is the UK Government Chief Scientific Adviser and Head of the Government Science and Engineering Profession since April 2023. A mathematical biologist, she was previously Oxford University Professor and MOD Chief Scientific Adviser, and her research focuses on infectious disease modelling and evidence-based policymaking. She was made Dame in 2018.

Stephen Cohen
Stephen has 40+ years of experience in global asset management, strategy and governance. He chairs the JPMorgan Japanese Investment Trust plc, is Chair of Audit for the Schroders Capital Global Innovation Trust plc and serves as Commissioner for the Civil Service Commission.

Dame Kate Bingham
Kate is Managing Partner at SV Health Investors, where she has co-led biotech investments for 30 years. SV Biotech investments have resulted in the launch of 26 new drugs including 6 new drug classes. In 2021 Kate was made Dame for her services as Chair of the UK Vaccine Taskforce.

Sarah Hunter
Sarah is a technology and policy expert who served as Director of Global Public Policy at X (formerly Google X) for over a decade. She has advocated for the development and application of climate technology, leading panels at UNGA, New York Climate Week and London Tech Week. Previously, she was Tony Blair's senior policy adviser on culture, media and sport.

Strive Masiwiya
Strive is a global telecoms and technology entrepreneur, investor and philanthropist. Over four decades he has built and backed businesses across five continents, playing a key role in expanding Africa’s digital infrastructure. He serves on the boards of Netflix, the Gates Foundation, National Geographic and advises organisations including Bank of America, Stanford and Bloomberg New Economy Forum.

Nick McKeown
Nick is the pioneer of key advances in internet architecture and has helped transform how 5G/6G networks are built. He co-founded several companies, including Nicira and Barefoot Networks, acquired for over $2B. A Professor Emeritus at Stanford and Senior Fellow at Intel, he is now returning to the UK as Visiting Professor of Engineering at Oxford.

Max Jaderberg
Max is Chief AI Officer at Isomorphic Labs, an Alphabet company reimagining drug discovery. Previously a senior research scientist at DeepMind, he joined after it acquired his visual recognition start-up, Vision Factory. With over 32K citations, he has led breakthrough research in AI and machine learning across domains including reinforcement learning and drug discovery.

Our Advisors
To create massive benefit for the UK, ARIA needs global reach, ambition and perspectives across sectors and disciplines. We will be adding to this core group of advisors as we grow.

Sir Demis Hassabis
Demis is a computer scientist, artificial intelligence researcher and entrepreneur. He is the co-founder/CEO of Google DeepMind, which has achieved numerous landmark AI breakthroughs such as AlphaFold, which solved the 50-year grand challenge of protein structure prediction and earned the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Demis was knighted in 2024 for Services to Artificial Intelligence.

Hayaatun Sillem
Hayaatun is CEO of the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering Foundation. A biochemist by training, she previously cofounded the Academy's Enterprise Hub. Hayaatun was made CBE in 2019 for services to International Engineering.

Arun Majumdar
Arun is a scientist, engineer, and the inaugural dean of the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability. He was previously the Founding Director of Advanced Research Projects Agency - Energy (ARPA-E) and the Vice President for Energy at Google.

Özlem Tureci
Özlem is a physician, immunologist, researcher and the co-founder and Chief Medical Officer of BioNTech. As a leading expert on messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) medicines, her contributions to the mRNA vaccine field include scientific groundwork, technology development, translational and clinical research, and the development of the first-ever approved mRNA drug – a vaccine against COVID-19.

Katie Rae
Katie is the CEO & Managing Partner of Engine Ventures. She serves on the boards of Commonwealth Fusion Systems, Form Energy, Boston Metal, EVOLOH, and Sublime Systems. Previously, she held leadership positions at TechStars, Microsoft, and AltaVista.

Artur Ekert
Artur is a crypto-physicist with a primary research interest in information processing in quantum mechanical systems. He is a professor of quantum physics at the Mathematical Institute, University of Oxford and the founding director of the Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT) in Singapore.

Patrick Collison
Patrick Collison is Chief Executive Officer of Stripe, a technology company he co-founded with his brother John that builds financial infrastructure for the internet. He also co-founded the Arc Institute, a biomedical research institute that is pioneering a new model for basic research.
